Aboriginal Life On The Goldfields

hey, it’s me! And today I’ll be talking about aboriginal life on the goldfields (gold rush 1850s) let’s begin!

the aboriginals were treating poorly. The land they had lived on for centuries was taken over by Europeans. And for ‘scientific reasons’ lots of aboriginal people were shot to claim their skulls.

Did you know that aboriginals did mining before Europeans? But the ore they were mining for wasn’t gold. It was greenstone. Which is a hard grey rock that was heavy, it was used to make tools. They also used ochre, a type of clay that comes from the ground. This was mixed with other minerals to create unique ‘face paint’ that they used in ceremonies.

The police became popular around these times, they were known for their splendid appearance. The diggers and aboriginal weren’t huge fans of them for, well, obvious reasons. But; they were the first ever police at Ballarat!

what are some things you know about the gold rush? I would love to know!

thats all for now! Bye! 🦦

See 👁 Think 💭 wonder 💡

Hi! It’s Emilia! And today as you can see in the title I’ll be doing see think wonder, (Source of the picture will be at the end of the post) Also, sorry if the picture is unclear, it is clear in my photos 🙂

SEE:

I see tracks with a coach in the background. I see loads of gum trees. I see aboriginal people talking with English people. I see a child playing. I see a broken, old log. I see tools on the ground. I see a river/lake. I see a big hill in the background.

THINK:

I think the aboriginals and the English people are making a deal, eg. Food for knive. Because the man is kneeling on his knee as if to say ‘please’

WONDER:

I wonder what they are ACTUALLY talking about, because I made a guess but I can’t know for sure, it could be anything!

Library reflection-term one 📚

Hi! It’s Emilia, and this is my library reflection   for term 1! My favourite genre for books is histrocial fiction, I love this genre because the majority of these books are war  books; a war book I’m currently reading is called ‘Winnie’s Great War’ by Lindsay Mattick & Josh Greenhut, there are some little illustrations done by Sophie Blackhall. This book is my current book chat book, it’s about a bear who’s mother was killed by a trapper, and a kind soldier buys her.  I haven’t finished this book yet but I am keen to. Another book I have finished and is very good is the book ‘The War That Saved My Life & The War I Finally Won’ as you can tell the last book is a sequel of the first. I am unable to provide the first book but I do own the second which I will give you a picture of.  What’s your favourite book and genre?

That’s all for now! Bye! 🦦

Meet The Characters In The Front Desk!

Hello again! It’s me! I hope you enjoy this character ‘chart’ I did on the  main characters of the Front Desk

Mia-Kind, helpful, determined, the odd one out (besides Jason.). Because when Jason was getting bullied she helped out.

Mr. Yao-inconsiderable, untrustworthy, uncaring because he suddenly changed the terms & conditions.

Jason-one of those kids who is bullied but still is mean, daddy’s boy. Because when Mr.Yao changed the terms & conditions he agreed that he did say it will change although it didn’t.

📚CBCA book voting!📚

Hi! It’s Emilia! This term my year level have been judging the CBCA books, focusing on information books. My favourite,  out of Our Birds by Siena Stubbs, Make Believe by M. C. Escher, Waves by Donna Rawlins and Mark Jackson + Heather Potter, Sorry Day by Coral Bass and Dub Leffler, Bouncing Back by Rohan Cleave and Coral Tulloch And The Happiness Box by Mark Greenwood and Andrew McLean was Waves by Donna Rawlins and Mark Jackson + Heather Potter.  I chose waves because the drawings were detailed and I liked the time-line at the start. It included lots of pictures of boats used over time and had a timeline and a map of the world.

It was a simple, pretty layout as the writing was everywhere and the pictures were just added in. It was a easy book to understand and anyone could read it and know what the author was trying to tell you.’ I gave my visuals a 9! My layout a 9! And my information a 9! I personally thought all the books were great! Have you read any of these books before? What do you think makes a good information book? Anyways, that’s all for now! Bye!🐳

Hands-on science!

Hi! It’s Emilia.

On Monday the 30th July, 4D did an incursion on Hands-On science. Hands-on science is company that teaches students about science (as you might know from the title.) Alex; the person who came to our incursion explained that some trees are indeed not renewable. At the incursion we burnt, soaked, sorted and recorded a few materials. (Before I begin we used the same materials for every experiment!)

For recording we simply got a glass bottle with the material around it and measured it every 5 minutes; like when we recorded the materials for our homeless project only different materials. An I personally; I truly thought that wool would keep in the most heat… BUT IT DIDN’T!!!

For burning we put the materials on a string with a bull clip and BURNT IT! Some materials even MELTED!!! Like, DRIPPED! It was extraordinary!

Then we did a experiment where we got an eye dropper and dropped a teensy bit of water on it and waited for a bit for it to soak in. The plastic ( obviously) didn’t soak in at all. Whilst the dri-fit soaked in SECONDS!

We also sorted materials into groups; natural and man-made. Things such as dyed wool went to man-made but if it wasn’t dyed it would’ve gone to natural!

Overall I learnt SO much in this incursion and I would recommend it to anyone!!!

just Another amazing blog
